CHINNA GOLLAPALEM (Krishna
dt.): A festive-like atmosphere
prevails in this tiny island village
situated in the midst of Upputeru
rivulet, 75 km from
Machilipatnam, the headquarters
of Krishna district.
Residents of five hamlets in the
island — Yetimondi, Kotlarevu,
Rallarevu, Pallipalem and Chinna
Gollapalem — are elated over
the achievement of 27-year-old
R. Mutyalaraju, this year's
national topper in the Civil
Services Examination. The
honour has come the way of
Andhra Pradesh after a gap of 36
years, and first time to Krishna
district.
"Collector Raju is from our
village. I will take you to his
home," said Revu Yedukondalu, a
fisherman who operates a diesel
boat in the rivulet, the only mode
of transport to reach the island,
when mediapersons descended
on Tuesday.
That was the mood in the island a
day after the Union Public Service
Commission (UPSC) released the
results of the most prestigious
examination and on the day the
media splashed the most
significant news for the village
